When I say “patchwork” most people would think old school granny style quilting. When I think of patchwork, I think about gorgeous pieces like these that I dream of some day making. (The following pictures are of quilts that were part of a Doll Quilt Swap)
These pencils are so fun! I saw them on an Etsy fan page posting and by the time I clicked on the link, they were sold out. She now has them back in stock. I am waiting with baited breath for preschool pencils. Maybe “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” or “See dog jump. Jump dog jump!” Head on over to paperpastries to see other cool items she has in store.
I bought confetti eggs last year for Easter. They were part of our Easter egg hunt and at the end of the hunt, after we opened all of our plastic eggs and emptied out the candy and coins, we had a blast cracking open these confetti eggs and throwing the confetti up in the air. The grass in our backyard was beautiful for days and the best part is that the confetti is all recycled paper confetti – it disintegrates in the rain – no plastic confetti pieces to clean up! I highly recommend gracieseggies for confetti fun this Easter!
Whew! The last 2 weeks have been a complete whirlwind. I have been so busy sewing for a local boutique and busy within my own shop with random sales and some custom order requests, that I don’t know up from down, in from out or day from night. I am pooped, I am sleep deprived, I am exhausted. So what did I do? I did it again, I reorganized my sewing room. Since I am technically sewing for 2 different businesses and I have supplies from 2 different shops, my sewing room has been a hot mess, a chaotic, overwhelming, disaster zone. There is nothing LESS inspiring than a sewing room with crap piled in every corner, fabrics tossed aside, strings and fuzz all over the floor and 501 projects going on at once. My husband peeked into my room yesterday and said, “you know, you could easily fill up 2 or 3 more of those units (wire cubes) and you probably would like it better because you could see everything” and then he walks away. Well shoot! That just gave me the go ahead to buy. So I headed out to Target today to get a couple more sets of wire cube storage and lo and behold, the blue ones were on clearance for $8.48, down from the original $16.99. MINE! I came home with my new items with a game plan – fabric in wire cubes, tall shelving unit as “store space” and the space under the table as plastic drawer bin hider. 5 hours later (yes, it took me that long but I DO have kids, little ones at that, ages 4 and 1 so you can imagine how many times I had to pause and climb out from behind the mountains of fabric and around the bins of ribbon and through the piles of crap.)
Anyways, here is the final result. My wall of fabric – chock full – with heavy weights and minkies on the bottom, cottons in the middle 2 rows and about 3 or 4 cubes filled with projects, cut fabrics or custom orders. Whew! It may not be perfect but I am now again inspired. A clean sewing room, an organized sewing room, a more roomy sewing room let’s creative juices flow and messes start again.

One of the things I love about Etsy is the Pounce feature. You can “pounce” (pull up) shops that either just had a sale OR that are still waiting for their first sale. When I have a free moment, I like to pounce on Etsy to see what cool things I can find and I have found some really beautiful items. Let’s see what I can undiscovered treasures I can find…
Oooo, a cool PacMan decal for your Macbook! Too cool!
Too cool! Get a sign made from Barbara O’Boyle’s photo alphabet art! I wonder what my name would look like.
VERY cool photo.
Beautiful notecard set
Happy Fat Tuesday! My mom ordered a King Cake for me when I was in college and I have loved them ever since, but must admit that I have not gotten one in many years. This year I went on a hunt for the most delicious looking King Cake and found Manny Randazzo’s Bakery out of New Orleans. Mmmmm, delicious! The price tag may seem a little hefty but it does include overnight shipping and getting a yearly King Cake is a fun tradition to get into. And don’t worry if you bite into a little plastic baby! That is the “prize” of the King Cake and whoever gets the baby gets to supply next year’s cake. To learn more about the history of the King Cake, visit Manny Randazzo’s web site. To learn more about the history of Mardi Gras, visit Mardi Gras New Orleans page for tons of fun information.
I happened upon this today and I love it. I want to blow it up and print it out to hang in my home somewhere to remind myself of all the things that I can do to become more eco conscious. My favorites – #5 – Recycle glass, #10 – Use 1 less paper napkin, #25 – Batch errands, #38 – Give it Away, and #40 – Plastic Bags Suck! The ones that will prove most difficult for me – #2 – Turn off computers at night and #3 – Don’t rinse. And the ones that I need constant reminders of – #16 – Brush without running and #26 – Turn off Lights. Check it out and spread the word!
Happy Valentine’s Day! (This gorgeous print is brought to you by levansphotography on Etsy)
